Generation Z: Fully Committed Yet Uncommitted – How Can Volunteer Work in Dormitories Succeed?
Over the past year, we’ve taken a close look at Generation Z and their use of social media—a digital world that both fosters and challenges connection and engagement.
Now we’re turning our attention to a very practical question: How can volunteer work in student housing succeed?
Generation Z is often seen as paradoxical—highly engaged yet completely non-committal.
What does this mean for student housing? How can volunteer work be made appealing without ignoring the realities of daily life in the dorms? What successful approaches already exist, and where do adjustments need to be made so that engagement not only emerges but also remains sustainable?
Furthermore, we want to explore how this generation deals with conflicts. Arguments and disagreements are part of living together—but how can we work with residents to establish effective and, ideally, sustainable conflict management? What kind of communication do we need to foster good relations even in the event of disputes?
These questions are crucial for the future of student housing—and this is precisely what we intend to explore in depth. Together, we will seek practical solutions that are equally viable for student housing facilities and their residents.
